In the first semester of school, we worked with you to help your child build foundational skills. We have also been working to develop self-regulation skills, which are critical to academic success. In this next semester, we will really begin to challenge the students at their individual levels, which will require your child to be more independent as well as listen and follow directions to ensure success. Please be sure to review your child's work each week to have a better understanding of how they are performing in class. PLEASE let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Remember to have your child find a rock, complete the Rock and Soil handout and bring them both to school on Monday.

Congratulations to Alex P.! He was our first Student Read-Aloud Reader. Each week, Mrs. Holl and I will select a student (or a few) who has been utilizing the independent reading periods to really practice reading, improving their decoding skills and fluency, regardless of their reading level. We are so excited about our growing readers!!!
EARN A FREE TICKET TO SIX FLAGS

Valentine's Day
We will have a Valentine's Day exchange on 2/14/17. If you would like your child to participate, please do the following:
1. Send a medium size Valentine's gift bag for your child to collect the Valentine's that are given to him/her.
2. Make or buy a valentine for every child in the class. We currently have 21 students.
It is NOT necessary to put names on the Valentine's if your child cannot yet read. It makes it difficult for him/her to pass out their own. However, if your child can read and you would like a class list so they can write out the names, please let me know. I will provide one for you.
3. Carry your Valentine's to school in a separate plastic shopping bag.
