Welcome Back!
I hope and trust everyone had a good break. Many of the students returned on Thursday and we are excited to see the rest of the class next week.

This semester we will continue to work on building foundational skills for students that are still learning to identify letters and their associated sounds. In addition, we will be working on the following skills:
Blending Words (putting each sound together to make a word)
Segmenting Words (hearing each sound in a word)
Isolating Sounds in CVC words (this helps with spelling - representing a letter(s) for each sound in a word)
Producing Sounds in CVC words (this helps with reading - determining the correct sound for letters)
Naming the Author and Illustrator and definfing the role of each
Asking and Answering questions about key details in a literary text
Retelling familiar stories
Identifying characters, setting, and major events
Naming the author and illustrator and defining the role of each
Comparing/Contrasting adventures and experiences of characters
Writing detailed sentences (Simple sentences tell - Who? Did What?; Detailed sentence give more information)
IN-HOUSE FIELD TRIP
Next week, the students will visit the STAR Lab on Wednesday afternoon. This is like a portable planetarium. Students will crawl in and sit inside of an inflatable dome.
