We have had an amazing 3 weeks! I am so impressed on how well the students work together, play together and clean up together. I am so excited to see the amount of growth this groups will help one another accomplish this year!!
Room Parent Needed
We have many families interested in partnering and working with our class. This is wonderful! I am currently looking for a room parent or co-room parents. If you are interested in helping our class in this way, please e-mail me ASAP. The room parent would attend the PTA meeting for room parents and help keep parents aware of ways they can be involved in our class and the school.
Agendas and Blue Folders
These are the primary tools for daily home/school communication. Please check them both daily. The blue folder is for sending general notes, flyers, and schoolwork. The agenda will have notes regarding behavior and will be for practicing the letter(s) or sight word(s) we learned during the week.
Communication
Communication is so important for your child's kindergarten experience. Please know that I am always interested in hearing from you to discuss any questions or concerns you have about your child's grow and progress. Please be sure to sign up for Remind to receive reminders for important information and upcoming events, if you have not yet done so. Directions for sign up will be in your child's blue folder.
Curriculum
This week we will be conducting more of the G-Kids readiness assessments. But we will continue to introduce the students to routines and procedures. In Math and English Language Arts (ELA), the students will learn about the workshop framework for instruction. We open the lessons by introducing/discussing/modeling a skill/new concept. This is followed by a work session where the children will work on a task or participate in learning centers related to new and previously introduced skills/concepts. In ELA, the students will participate in Daily 5 centers (listening to reading, working with words, reading to someone, writing, and reading to self). Due to time constraints they will rotate through 3 of these activities daily. Then we will close the lesson out by reflecting on our learning for that day.
Ways to Help at Home
1. Work with your child to know all his letters by name and the sounds they make. Try to meet this goal Fall Break. Watch letter videos on google. Here are few of my favorites: Preschool Prep Phonics Song Fundations A-Z Letter Practice Alphardy
2. Continue practicing proper letter formation with your child to write his/her name.
3. Practice reading, writing, and spelling the sight words we are learning. (see agenda) We are beginning to learn words that are helpful for beginning writing in kindergarten. Last week we learned the word I.
Wishful Thinking
After four years in kindergarten, I was finally able to obtain a wooden kitchen area for student play and learning. Our kitchen however is bare and unstocked. The kids would love to have some play dishes, utensils, and food.

Thank you to the families that remembered the extra changes of clothing in the backpacks (including socks and undies). Several children have been glad they were there.
Thank you to the families that remembered to have girls wear leggings or shorts under dresses and skirts. Be cautious of the skirts with attached shorts. Many of them provide minimal coverage for our active girls ,still leaving them somewhat exposed.
